On Sep 23, 2016, at 20:35.  It is with the upmost sorrow that I report the passing of JD Diskon. His wonderful wife Tina advised that he slipped from this mortal coil peacefully this morning. JD requested no funeral, but memorial plans will announced. Please keep JD and Tina in your prayers . A fine man and a stellar friend. Rest In Peace my brother

Passing along Tina's details for Tuesday's final ride. She has very specific directions and has secured a CHP escort to take us as far as the San Mateo bridge.

Thanks to all for help in honoring John's wishes and making this burial less harsh for me.  I am dreading that putting John in the ground.

THE HILLER HIGHLANDS /Fire Memorial Park ABOVE THE INTERSECTION OF HILLER DRIVE AND

CALDECOT LANE.
 

  CHP WILL BE PROVIDING A FORMAL ESCORT
 

FOR US (IF WEATHER AND TRAFFIC CRISIS ALLOW) FROM THIS
 

POINT TO THE TOLL PLAZA ON THE SAN MATEO BRIDGE. 

 

THE GROUP WILL LEAVE AT 9:30 AND WILL NOT BE ABLE TO WAIT FOR LATE COMERS.  THE ROUTE TO BE TAKEN FOLLOWS:

 

LEAVE HILLER HIGHLANDS IMMEDIATELY TURNING LEFT ONTO CALDECOTT LANE.  STAY STRAIGHT THROUGH THE FIRST

INTERSECTION THEN  BENDING RIGHT TO
 

MERGE ONTO HIGHWAY 24 HEADING SOUTH.  TAKE THE SECOND
 

EXIT, TO MERGE ONTO  HIGHWAY 13 GOING SOUTH. 

 

STAY ON #13 UNTIL THE MERGE INTO HIGHWAY #580 JUST BEFORE THE TRANSITION YOU WILL WANT TO BE IN THE LEFT LANE..

 

ON #580 STAY IN THE FAR RIGHT LANE TAKE THE EXIT MARKED FOR HIGHWAY 238 .

 

IMMEDIATELY MOVE 1 LANE TO THE LEFT OR YOU WILL BE FORCED TO

EXIT.  STAY IN THAT LANE, FOLLOWING SIGNAGE FOR #880
 

SOUTH
 

 

MERGE ONTO #880 SOUTH.  
 

  
 

ON #880 STAY RIGHT ,  UNTIL YOU EXIT FOLLOWING SIGNS FOR #92 AND THE SAN MATEO BRIDGE.

 

TO MAKE THAT EXIT SMOOTHLY, KEEP MOVING INTO THE
 

FARTHEST RIGHT HAND LANE ,

 

BUT ONCE ON #92 IMMEDIATELY MOVE ONE

LANE TO THE LEFT, TO AVOID HAVING TO EXIT THE HIGHWAY.

 

PASS THROUGH THE TOLL BOOTHS
 

 

BY THE TIME YOU GET TO THE OTHER END OF THE SAN MATEO
 

BRIDGE YOU WILL WANT TO BE IN THE FAR LEFT LANE TO GET AROUND

THE USUAL TRAFFIC FOR THE 101 EXITS

 

FOLLOW SIGNAGE FOR HALF MOON BAY, STAYING IN THE FAR LEFT

LANE.
 

 

GO UP THE SAN MATEO GRADE.  CRESTING THAT GRADE, SHIFT TO THE MIDDLE LANE TO EASE INTO THE MERGE FOR

#280
 

 

FOLLOW SIGNAGE FOR #280 SOUTH/SAN JOSE.  THE ROAD BENDS LEFT, DIPPING UNDER AN OVERPASS AND THEN THE ACTUAL MERGE

CAN BE SEEN.
 

 

STAY IN THE FAR RIGHT LANE.
 

 

TAKE  THE EXIT FOR SANDHILL ROAD,  AFTER THE INITIAL EXITING , FOLLOW SIGNAGE FOR SANDHILL ROAD EAST.

 

ON SANDHILL ROAD,  GO THROUGH 5 LIGHTS.  YOU WILL WANT TO BE IN THE LEFT LANE AS YOU GO THROUGH THE

FIFTH LIGHT.

 

AT THE 6TH LIGHT, THE INTERSECTION OF SANDHILL AND SANTA

CRUZ, TURN LEFT AND GET INTO THE RIGHT LANE.
 

 

AT THE FIRST LIGHT ON SANTA CRUZ, THE STREET SPLITS. STAY

RIGHT ON SANTA CRUZ
 

YOU WILL PASS A COUPLE OF  SMALL RIGHT SIDE STREETS. 
 

WHEN YOU PASS OADELL, SLOW, YOU WILL SEE A 30 MILE AN
 

HOUR SIGN.  ABOUT 15 FEET FURTHER THERE IS A SEEMINGLY UNMARKED

DRIVE THROUGH AN OPENING IN A VERY TALL HEDGE. 

 

THAT IS THE BACK ENTRANCE OF THE CEMETERY.  TURN RIGHT
 

INTO THAT DRIVE.

THE CEMETERY IS VERY SMALL, YOU WILL SEE, TO YOUR LEFT,

WHERE THE GATHERING WILL HAPPEN.  PARK WHERE YOU WISH.

 

IF YOU MISS THIS CEMETERY TURN, CONTINUE ON, AROUND
 

THE BEND, ON SANTA CRUZ THE MAIN GATE OF THE CEMETERY WILL BE ON YOUR RIGHT, LARGE,

OPEN AND MARKED.  
 

DRIVE TO THE BACK OF THE CEMETERY.

Here are the details we have set up thus far:
 

One of JD's final wishes was for a motorcycle escort to his final resting place at Holy Cross Cemetery in Menlo Park.
 

Tina Diskon has selected Tues. Oct. 25th as the day of the procession.  The plan is to meet at JD's house 53 Starview Dr in Oakland at 0930 hrs that morning.  

 

As we anticipate a good representation of both motorcycling and non-motorcycling participants it may be too much to try and pack us all up on that narrow street. So the plan is to have motors and friends in cars to gather at the intersection Hillel Drive and Tunnel Rd across from the Oakland Hills Fire Memorial Park. This is at the bottom of that steep hill that goes up to Starview.

 

We plan on departing from JD & Tina's home at 9:30 am. So all need to be staged and ready to join in as we come down the hill. 

 

The procession will go down to the west bound Highway 24 on ramp to Highway 13 south. Connecting to east bound 580 near Seminary Ave. Then on to 238 to 880 south.  Then we'll take 92 west across the San Mateo Bridge and follow 92 up to 280 south.  We'll exit I-280 onto Sand Hill Road and follow Sand Hill down to Santa Cruz Ave & turn left.  

 

Just a few blocks down Santa Cruz to the Cemetery. 

 

Although no graveside service is planned, anyone who wishes to share a few thoughts about JD will be encouraged to do so.
 

After the burial, Tina has invited all attendees to be her guests at brunch at Buck's Restaurant in Woodside. We'll need RSVPs so a count can be provided to Buck's.  We won't all fit at one table, but Buck's will squeeze us in as best they can.
